If you've not visited before, you may wonder about the brief "means test" we mention at check-in. It's nothing to worry about — here's a plain explanation of what it is and why it's there.
The clinic exists for people of limited means: those who are facing a legal problem but can't easily afford to consult a lawyer. Because our volunteers' time is limited, a short means test helps us direct that free help to the people who need it most.
When you arrive, the Clinic Assistant will ask you to complete a short intake form and answer a few simple questions about your situation. It only takes a moment, and your answers stay confidential.
If the clinic turns out not to be the right fit for you, we won't simply send you away. We'll do our best to point you toward another resource that can help. The goal is always to make sure you leave knowing where to turn next.
What to bring
Just come as you are, near the clinic's opening time. There's no appointment and no cost. The intake and means test happen right at check-in, before you meet a law student and lawyer.
